How this is calculated

The formula

cost_per_token = vendor_cost ÷ tokens_processed

One figure per period. The period is whatever range is selected above, compared with the equally long window immediately before it.

Where the inputs come from

Cloud vendor invoices: vendor_cost and tokens_count per billing period, summed across all vendors.
Customer payments: customer_payment per period. Only used for the revenue and margin figures.

Derived from the same two inputs

Revenue per token: customer_payment ÷ tokens_processed
Gross margin: (customer_payment − vendor_cost) ÷ customer_payment
Saved this period: (previous_cost_per_token − current_cost_per_token) × tokens_processed

How the direction is decided

Unit cost down, or margin up — improving.

Unit cost up, or margin down — deteriorating.

Movement under 0.5% is treated as flat — no arrow, no colour.

Volume is context, not a verdict — direction only, never coloured good or bad.

What this number does not tell you

Why the cost moved. Attribution to a driver (instance mix, spot pricing, a single vendor) is not derivable from invoices plus payments alone.
Where it goes next. No forecast is shown — extrapolating from these two inputs would look precise without being reliable.
Anything below period level. Invoices arrive per billing period, so intra-period spikes are averaged away.
